Gentle Do Tai Chi returns to Manchester
Have you heard about the benefits of meditation, but can’t seem to sit still and focus on clearing your mind? You’re not alone, and The Academy’s Gentle Dō Tai Chi class is your ticket to the benefits of mediation while moving!
The Academy is proud to announce it is bringing back its Gentle Dō Tai Chi program. The Academy now offers nine different Martial Arts based programs for ages 5 to 100. This style of Tai Chi is based on self defense movements from traditional Korean Martial Arts. The movements are slow and deliberate. They are paired with focused breath, allowing practitioners to focus their minds and ground themselves in the present.
Tai Chi is a form of moving meditation that has been practiced for centuries. Tai Chi has been shown to reduce stress, blood pressure, and even relieve chronic pain. Like other forms of meditation, Tai chi has also been shown to help manage the symptoms of many health problems like asthma, cancer, heart disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and sleep problems.
Gentle Dō Tai Chi has a more direct approach to self defense than other forms of Tai Chi. Students learn how the purposeful movements they learn could be used in real world self defense situations. Each movement is designed to be directly applicable to self defense, as well as stretching, strengthening, and cardiovascular exercise.
Physical health is directly connected to mental health. The Academy provides holistic programs that address both of these simultaneously. Gentle Dō Tai Chi brings this holistic training to students of all ages and abilities. Whether you're 22 years old and struggling with negative emotions, 42 and looking to exercise and manage stress, or 88 and struggling to maintain your independent mobility you'll get a great workout of the body and mind.
Thank you to everyone who came to the first class in February!
